Development Planning and Financial Planning Training of Trainers Workshop

The Development Planning and Financial Planning Training of Trainers Workshop was conducted in Kaafu Atoll Thulusdhoo, organized by the Local Government Authority (LGA). The trained participants includes 42 Atoll Council and City Council Representatives and 16 LGA staff members.

The workshop, conducted from 8th-12th May 2016, aimed at strengthening governance in the Maldives through improved local level planning and management by identifying and analyzing the local problems and finding solutions in their planning process. This workshop was designed to ensure delivering climate resilient communities by identifying the role of island councils in planning and managing mitigation, resilience and adaptation.

A revised development template, a detailed handbook and an explanatory video guide was produced by LGA with the support of ‪‎LECReD Programme and was provided to the participants. The workshop identified a number of considerations to be taken into account in compiling the Island Development Plans, including practicing a participatory and inclusive approach and the importance of involving all the relevant stakeholders. It also discussed aspects of women’s role in Island development and enabling their participation in the planning process.

Thirteen local thematic areas based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) were identified and interactive activities were carried out familiarizing the participants to the formats and methodology of development plan and financial plan and preparing them to draft island development plan and financial plan of 2017-2021.
