Finland’s Ambassador to the Maldives His Excellency Mr. Kim Loutonen declares open the Kendhi-kulhudhoo Social Centre

Kendhi-kulhudhoo, 2 March 2003- The Finnish Ambassador to the Maldives Mr. Kim Loutonen has today officially declared open the Kendhi-kulhudhoo Social Centre. At a ceremony held in Kendhi-kulhudhoo this morning to mark the occasion, the Ambassador said that Today’s ceremony was also attended by the UNDP Deputy Representative for the Maldives Mr. Jan Thomas Hiemstra and the Assistant Director General of the Ministry of Atolls Administration Mr. Farook Mohamed, the Atoll Chief Mr. Hassan Kaleyfaanu, senior island officials, and other officials of the government and UNDP.

The Kendhikulhudhoo Social Centre is an initiative of the people of the island and was constructed by the people themselves with funding from the Government of Finland. The building measures 71 x 50 feet and accommodates a conference hall, a library, storage room and office space. The Minister of Atolls Mr. Abdulla Hameed laid the foundation stone of the building on The 1st of June 2002.
Ambassador Loutonen also visited Manadhoo yesterday and met with the Island Development Committee. He is scheduled to return to Male’ later today.
