UN Advocacy

Because the UN Family’s mission is to ensure balanced and equitable development of Maldives through the reduction of disparities all UN Agencies in Maldives are aiming to reach this goal.  “One Family, One Voice in Support of Maldives” is our main slogan.

The UN Family is also working to reduce poverty in Maldives by half before 2015 and to support all eight Millennium Development Goals.  We aim to have a concrete impact in improving people’s lives while addressing global poverty concerns.  We are assisting a country that faces some of the most daunting challenges to human development on Earth

As such, a Communications Strategy has been formulated for the UN Family.  The vision of the strategy is for the Country Office to be more proactive with journalists and to build a relationship of trust with the journalists and their organisations.  We aim to become the first institution media people think of when they need ideas, leads, a source, a quotation, statistics, images or an interview for preparing a story with a development angle.  Stressing the UN Family’s roles as advisor, catalyst, partner and facilitator, we focus on UN Maldives’ role in assisting a country that faces some of the most daunting challenges to human development on Earth.

During the year the UN Family participates in the celebration of important days.  Special activities are taking place on the following days:

• Independence Day (26 July)
• UN Day (24 October)
• International Day for Eradication of Poverty (17 October)

The United Nations Communications Officer is the focal point in the UN Family for all communications activities.
